We love this spot. It's been really great and consistent ever since it's opened with good food selections and drink choices. Plus I love the different specials available on certain days.

My favorite is the Scotty Stack, but you can't go wrong with wings, chicken tenders, turkey burger, or really anything. Amazing fries too!

When I saw the pictures of the Scotty Stack ($11.49) burger I had to try it!  It was just as good as it looked.  The burger had a delicious special sauce and came with hot and fresh shoestring fries.  Durning my visit they had happy hour $2 off whiskey. The place is somewhat divey.  They have delicious food, great presentation, and service! From there Facebook page it looks like they have specials quite a bit!

Since my first visit was enjoyable I went back and enjoyed the crispy crab sandwich ($12.99) which was yummy and came with the shoestring fries.  This time I tried the St. James martini and it was a refreshing light drink! I would get it again!

Hillcrest Tavern is the new spot for burgers and beer, although there's other great things on the menu too. My group included 4 adults and 4 kids.

Two orders of pretzels and beer cheese went to the younger kids. Not a bite left and one is particular about this appetizer.

A few of us ate the Knockers Burger, which is probably the most basic cheeseburger option. It comes with fries and it's a solid meal. Burgers are a good portion and cover the burger urge.

The parking lot is small but even on a Saturday it was easy to find street parking (be careful crossing Frankfort Ave). Seating is plentiful and I was happy to see several other families having dinner. I wasn't sure since "Tavern" is in the name. Service was fast and friendly. Check out the daily drink specials too!

My wife and I made our first trip to the Hillcrest. Very much enjoyed the inside and service. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese as an appetizer. The cheese came cold. When I asked the waitress about that, she said that's the way they serve it. By the cheese being cold, it was hard to dip the pretzel into and get it to separate from the remaining cheese. My wife lost one of her pieces in the cheese and it was sticky enough we had to tag team to find the lost piece and fish it out.
My entree was very good and I would order it again, however, my wife's chicken and pasta, she said, didn't have a lot of flavor.
Despite these problems, we both felt the Tavern was due another visit from us. There are a lot of offerings on the menu to try.
I won't get the pretzel again.

To the reviewer who gave this place one-star because they don't carry any local beers: GET A LIFE! You live in one of the most "LOCALS ONLY" cities in America and god-forbid one establishment doesn't carry one of your local beers on tap. If you wanted to to drink your local beer go to any of the other damn restaurants in town. There is plenty of love for the local scene. Blasting a place because they don't carry something is pretty stupid in my opinion... kind of contradicting your statement of wanting to support the neighborhood when you give a local place a bad rating! Ha!

Ok. The restaurant. Hillcrest tavern is a new player on Frankfort Ave and a welcome addition. There is a long bar and plenty of table top and booth seating. A group of four of us posted at the bar and had a few round of drinks and quite a bit of food from the menu. I personally enjoyed the 65 cent wings smothered in their bbq sauce. It's a blend of mustard based and special sauce. Their fries are also very good and I'm not a fry guy.

The club sandwich was difficult to eat and pretty bland.
The buffalo chicken sandwich was merely okay.
The cheesesteak was ruined by processed American cheese despite saying it has beer cheese on it. Cold beer cheese is gross. Guys, please put hot beer cheese on the cheesesteak and you'll sell way more! The Mac and cheese is really rich! It was tough to swallow after consuming so many different bites from our friends' plates.

The food could definitely use some tweaking, but overall the staff was very friendly. The place is clean and there are several TVs to watch the game. I would definitely go back. I'm sure with time the food will improve and they will have more specials. Worth a look.

To the loser crying about local breweries not available here... why don't you actually go to one... so we don't have to listen to you cry.
